Newham Music Trust - an 'Outstanding' Music Service

The Newham Music Trust operates in the East London Borough of Newham. In 1996 we became independent of the local government and changed to charitable trust status.

Primarily we are the borough's music service.

We provide;

  • instrumental and vocal lessons in whole class and group settings to schools and to pupils after school hours and on Saturday mornings;

  • Soundscape Music Therapy for children, adults and older people with for example profound and multiple learning disabilities, Alzheimer's and dementia and special needs both at our special Soundscape Music Therapy Centre and on an outreach basis;

  • the Learning Through Music (LTM) project, delivering music technology and production projects for young people who are deemed hard to reach through NCFE, within schools and community centres, and through evening courses for adults. We have a fully equipped recording studio available to hire, which is free for Academy Students, and look out for the launch of the Newham Vibe Radio Station!
  • The above three core areas are by no means the boundaries of our work. We undertake many special instrumental, choral and music projects of all genres from classical to jazz, indian music to urban music and are proud to have special partnerships with professional orchestras such as the LSO, the RPO and the New London Orchestra. Please take a musical journey around our website to find out more details about all we do at the Academy and to find out how to get involved in our projects!
