Newham Music Trust is seeking an exceptional, hardworking and talented CEO to lead the music charity and the Newham Music Hub.

The post will build on the existing strategic vision and provide clear and inspirational leadership to Newham Music Trust, Newham Academy of Music and Newham Music Hub, maximising the impact of our work for all children and young people in Newham.

Newham Music Trust (NMT) is a charity that provides music education to schools and communities throughout the borough of Newham. NMT also runs Newham Academy of Music, a thriving after-school and weekend music academy. Newham Music Trust is the lead organisation for the award winning Newham Music Hub.

Evening and weekend support staff needed for Newham Music Academy

We are looking for an enthusiastic support staff to assist at Newham Music Academy, Newham Music’s thriving after-school and weekend music school, which runs instrumental lessons, choirs and ensembles for young people in Newham.

The role will include, but is not limited to:
– Assisting in operational duties such as classroom setup and ensuring all teachers have the correct instruments, equipment and registers required
– Manning the reception desk and responding the parent and student enquiries.
– Safeguarding children between lessons (see the Newham Music Safeguarding Policy here)
– Directing new starters and parents to correct classroom
– Assisting in the closedown procedure after evening teaching, Saturday school and events.

Opportunities will also be available to work additional hours throughout the year on various projects and Newham Music events. Full job description is available below.

Salary: £9.15 per hour for up to 21 hours per week (dependent on successful candidate’s availability) rising to £9.50 after probationary period

Hours will be term-time at ten weeks per term (30 weeks per year) and will be as follows:
Monday , Tuesday evenings 16.30 – 20.15 at Lister Community School
Wednesday evenings 17:45-21:15 at Chobham Academy
Thursday evenings 17:45-20:15 at Chobham Academy
Saturdays 8.45 – 15.15 at Chobham Academy

We are always looking for experienced, inspiring teachers with excellent musical skills to join our successful team. Recruitment is an ongoing process based on the provisional needs of schools, families, and community/cultural organisations.

Instrumental teachers and Ensemble leaders
Teachers will need the following:
-Experience or desire to develop skills in small group teaching (up to 6 in a group)
-Teaching skills which focus on practical, music making activities leading to regular performances

Enthusiastic class teachers
Teachers will need all or some of the following depending on the teaching placement:
-Class music teaching skills, which place an emphasis on practical, creative music making in the classroom
-Ability to teach a range of musical styles including composition and improvisation
-Commitment to teaching musicianship skills through the voice
-Experience in Large Group, Mixed Ensemble and/or Workshop Leading Skills
