A new orchestra for young Londoners

Are you 16 – 25, grade 8 plus and want to play with a professional conductor at some of London’s most exciting venues? Then we want to hear from you!

Newham Philharmonic is a brand new orchestra for young Londoners and those further-afield and we are currently looking for orchestral musicians of grade 8 standard and above to join us! Under the baton of Matthew Scott Rogers (Royal Ballet) Newham Philharmonic will make their world debut in 2016 at Barbican Centre and Lister School with a performance of Brahms’ Symphony No. 1.

Applicant requirements

  • 16-25 years old

  • Play one of the following orchestral instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, French horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Timpani.

  • Grade 8 standard or above. You may apply if you have not passed the exam, but your instrumental teacher will have to provide a reference stating that you are of that standard.



  • Membership of the orchestra is free of charge.



  • Deadline for applications has now closed

  • Rehearsals: 8, 9, 10 April 2016 Lister Community School

  • Performances: 2.30pm, 10 April 2016 at Lister Community School and 7pm, 11 April 2016 at the Barbican Centre.
