Music Connected

Music Connected brings together the vibrant and diverse communities of Newham promoting their cultural traditions, showcasing their music in schools and community centres. Central to the programme is the recruitment and development of a music educator team from wider musical genres and underrepresented communities, with authenticity in music at the core. Music Connected also includes seed funding for music initiatives led by local community musicians.

Newham Music works with local partners to deliver music projects and events for young people that explore the uniquely diverse communities we live in. Recently we have connected young people to their communities through music with the V&A museum, Addictive.TV, brollyproductions and London Borough of Newham.

Our Bridging Sounds Orchestra explores traditional music from the different communities represented in Newham. In June 2020, when the country was locked down, they connected with each other virtually to perform.

In June 2020, as a part of Newham Heritage Month, our Songs We Sing at Home series explored the musical cultures within Newham.
